Drink raised taking note of a king (6)
I believe the answer is:
regnal
'of a king' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'drink raised taking note' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'note' could be 're' (as in do-re-mi) and 're' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
(Other definitions for regnal that I've seen before include "Relating to a monarch's reign" , "about a rule" , "Angler (anag.); of a period in power" .)
