Crossword Genius

Easy reward from getting on line? (5,3,3,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

money for old rope

'easy reward' is the definition.

'getting on line?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'on' could be 'o' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'o' is found within the answer.
'line?' could be 'rope' (rope is a kind of line) and 'rope' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'from' is the link.

(Other definitions for money for old rope that I've seen before include "dealing with elderly guys?" , "Easy earnings" , "Reward for little effort" , "Profit for little effort" , "An easy job" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
