Crossword Genius

Economies turned round firm producing fine plaster (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

stucco

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fine plaster' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'economies turned round firm' is the wordplay.
'economies' becomes 'cuts' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'turned round' is a reversal indicator.
'firm' becomes 'co' (a firm is a company).
'cuts' back-to-front is 'stuc'.
'stuc'+'co'='STUCCO'

'producing' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for stucco that I've seen before include "Fine plaster for decoration" , "Outside coat" , "Mouldable wall plaster" , "material for covering wall" , "Plaster for decorative work" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
