Crossword Genius

Egyptian jewel, namely, reflecting Egypt in general? (6)

I believe the answer is:

scarab

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'egypt in general?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.

'egyptian jewel namely reflecting' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'namely' could be 'sc' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'sc' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'arab' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for scarab that I've seen before include "divine creature" , "Type of beetle" , "Holy beetle" , "Old abuse" , "crawler" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
