Crossword Genius

Electronic stuff working for imitator (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

epigon

'imitator' is the definition.
(I have seen 'inferior imitator' mean 'epigon' so perhaps 'imitator' could also mean 'epigon')

'electronic stuff working' is the wordplay.
'electronic' becomes 'e' (as in e-mail or e-books).
'stuff' becomes 'pig' (both can mean to eat lots of food).
'working' becomes 'on'.
'e'+'pig'+'on'='EPIGON'

'for' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for epigon that I've seen before include "son" , "one of an undistinguished generation?" , "Inferior follower or imitator" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
