Elegant trimmed fillet presented with character (8)
I believe the answer is:
debonair
'elegant' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'trimmed fillet presented with character' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'character' could be 'air' (air can mean a character or mood) and 'air' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for debonair that I've seen before include "Affable, stylish" , "Having a cheerful and self-confident air" , "Confident, stylish and charming" , "Jaunty and sophisticated" , "Bride on a swing has carefree, urbane manner" .)
