Endured Tuesday cryptic without you (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

stayed

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'endured tuesday' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with fundamental existence as well as being past participle verbs.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'cryptic without you' is the wordplay.
'cryptic' becomes 'stad' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'without' indicates putting letters inside ('without' can be similar in meaning to 'outside').
'you' becomes 'ye' (historical version of 'you').
'stad' placed around 'ye' is 'STAYED'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for stayed that I've seen before include "Supported" , "Secured; remained" , "Remained; guyed" , "Remained in the same place" , "Remained; steadied" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
