Crossword Genius

Energy to stand and make an exit (3-2-3-2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

get-up-and-go

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'energy' is the definition.
(I know that energy can be written as get-up-and-go)

'stand and make an exit' is the wordplay.
'stand' becomes 'get up' (I've seen this before).
'make an exit' becomes 'go' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'getup'+'and'+'go'='GET-UP-AND-GO'

'to' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for get-up-and-go that I've seen before include "'pizazz'" , "Vim" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
