Crossword Genius

English film — “What is 60 miles above ground?” (1,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

e layer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'above ground?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how they can define each other.

'english film what is 60 miles' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'english' could be 'e' (abbreviation) and 'e' is located in the answer.
'film' could be 'layer' (I've seen this before) and 'layer' is found in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for e layer that I've seen is " atmospheric thing".)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
