I believe the answer is:

'start' becomes 'rels' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'minute' becomes 'min' (abbreviation).
'street' becomes 'st' (abbreviation).
'min'+'st'='minst'
'rels' put after 'minst' is 'MINSTRELS'.
'about fifty set to' acts as a link.
