Escapades that could end in a pickle (6)
I believe the answer is:
capers
'escapades' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'could end in a pickle' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'a' could be 'per' (eg 'one a day' means 'one per day') and 'per' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'that' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for capers that I've seen before include "Jumps, runs about playfully" , "Skips, dances" , "Scrape leading to frolics" , "Pickled flower buds used in sauces" , "Pranks and pickled buds" .)
