I believe the answer is:

showroom

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a sales display' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'essentially assessing the way to fix up' is the wordplay.
'essentially' indicates the central letters.
'the way to' becomes 'how' (ie how to do something).
'fix' becomes 'moor' (mooring is a kind of fixing).
'up' says the letters should be written in reverse (in down clue: letters go upwards).
The middle letter of 'assessing' is 's'.
'moor' backwards is 'room'.
's'+'how'+'room'='SHOWROOM'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for showroom that I've seen before include "Semi-transparent" , "commercial premises" , "Scene for displaying" , "sales area" , "Where e.g. cars on display" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
