Everybody on the street will stop working (5)
I believe the answer is:
stall
'will stop working' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.
'everybody on the street' is the wordplay.
'everybody' becomes 'all' (I've seen this before).
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'the street' becomes 'st'.
'all' put after 'st' is 'STALL'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for stall that I've seen before include "Animal compartment" , "Place for display of articles for sale" , "Come to a halt" , "Commercial booth" , "Seat - prevaricate" .)
