Exhibited definitive book writer has gone into (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

opened

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'gone into' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with contact as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'exhibited definitive book writer' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'writer' could be 'ed' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'ed' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'open' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'has' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for opened that I've seen before include "Turned key and unlocked" , "Unlocked, made accessible" , "Gave access by unlocking" , "Made available" , "Began - undone" .)

I've seen this clue in the Irish Times and the Irish Times (Crosaire).
