Exit in the open air (7)
I believe the answer is:
outdoor
'in the open air' is the definition.
(outdoor means out in the open air)
'exit' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'exit' could be 'door' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'door' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'out' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for outdoor that I've seen before include "This sport is not under a roof" , "Alfresco - sort of pursuits" , "Al fresco" , "External" , "exposed to the elements" .)
