Extra seconds with last of soup dipped into -- it's common! (10)
I believe the answer is:
widespread
'common' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'extra seconds with' is the wordplay.
'extra' becomes 'wide' (cricket term).
'seconds with' becomes 'spread' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'wide'+'spread'='WIDESPREAD'
'last of soup dipped into it's' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for widespread that I've seen before include "common" , "Extensive" , "Sweeping" , "found in many places" , "Generally prevalent" .)
