Extremely happy with a garden designed for growth (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hydrangea

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'growth' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'extremely happy with a garden designed' is the wordplay.
'extremely' means to remove the middle letters (only the extremes of the word are used).
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'designed' indicates an anagram (designed with the letters).
'happy' with its middle removed is 'hy'.
'a'+'garden'='agarden'
'agarden' with letters rearranged gives 'drangea'.
'hy'+'drangea'='HYDRANGEA'

'for' is the link.
