Crossword Genius

Extremely visitable and pleasant Italian city (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

venice

'italian city' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'extremely visitable and pleasant' is the wordplay.
'extremely' suggests removing the centre (only the extremes of the word are used).
'and' says to put letters next to each other.
'pleasant' becomes 'nice' (similar in meaning).
'visitable' with its centre taken out is 've'.
've'+'nice'='VENICE'

(Other definitions for venice that I've seen before include "It used to be known as the Queen of the Adriatic" , "City of gondolas on Adriatic" , "Secret scheme or conspiracy" , "Italian city with Bridge of Sighs" , "Italian source" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
