I believe the answer is:

adhering

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'faithfully following' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are present participle verbs, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'head-banging band' is the wordplay.
'banging' indicates anagramming the letters (the order of letters is banged up or smashed).
'band' becomes 'ring' (a ring is a band of metal).
'head' with letters rearranged gives 'adhe'.
'adhe'+'ring'='ADHERING'

(Other definitions for adhering that I've seen before include "Sticking" , "holding fast" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
