Familiar name for a noted wild tribe (6)
I believe the answer is:
bertie
'familiar name' is the definition.
'Bertie' can be an answer for 'name'. I am unsure of the 'familiar' bit.
'noted wild tribe' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'tribe' is 'berti' which is located in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'for a' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bertie that I've seen before include "... Ahern, FF politician" , "The familiar or informal Taoiseach" , "The familiar Irish Taoiseach" , "- Wooster (Wodehouse)" , "The familiar Mr Ahern, former Taoiseach" .)
