Fancy, fashionable picture frames (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

imagine

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fancy' is the definition.
(I know that fancy is a more specific form of imagine)

'fashionable picture frames' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'fashionable' could be 'in' (in can mean fashionable or trendy) and 'in' is present in the answer.
'picture' could be 'image' (synonyms) and 'image' is found in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for imagine that I've seen before include "Picture in one's mind" , "Believe to be so, suppose" , "Number one" , "Suppose; think up" , "Form a mental image in the mind" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
