Fancy scrapping up-to-date copy (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

image

'copy' is the definition.
(an image might be a copy of something else)

'fancy scrapping up-to-date' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'date' could be 'age' (both can mean to get older) and 'age' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'im' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for image that I've seen before include "Representation, picture" , "Pictorial representation" , "Epitome" , "sculpture" , "Likeness; metaphor" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
