Fantastic NHS: one has to applaud nursing association (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

clanship

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'association' is the definition.

'fantastic nhs one has to applaud nursing' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'nhs' is 'nsh' which is within the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (roman numeral) and 'i' is found within the answer.
'applaud' could be 'clap' (synonyms) and 'clap' is found within the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for clanship that I've seen is " Loyalty to family group".)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
