Crossword Genius

Far from cool, short anorak seen on you abroad (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nervous

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'abroad' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives. Perhaps you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'far from cool short anorak seen on' is the wordplay.
'far from cool' becomes 'vous' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'short' means to remove the last letter.
'anorak' becomes 'nerd' (I've seen this before).
'seen on' says to put letters next to each other.
'nerd' with its last letter taken away is 'ner'.
'vous' put after 'ner' is 'NERVOUS'.

'you' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for nervous that I've seen before include "Tense" , "far from cool?" , "Frightened" , "Agitated - excitable" , "Edgy" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
