Ross

I believe the answer is:

slip of the tongue

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'taster's petticoat' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'faux pas' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'faux pas' could be 'slip' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'slip' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'involving' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for slip of the tongue that I've seen before include "vocal error" , "mistake one hears" , "a small error" , "Error in words" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
