Crossword Genius

Fellow eats a new type of Asian food (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

paneer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'new type of asian food' is the definition.
I don't know anything about this answer so I can't judge whether this works.

'fellow eats a' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'a' could be 'an' and 'an' is located in the answer.
'fellow' could be 'peer' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'peer' is located in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for paneer that I've seen is " Cheese".)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
