Figured to be like a new radio (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

digital

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a new radio' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives. Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'figured to be like' is the wordplay.
'figured' becomes 'ital' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to' means one lot of letters go next to another (I've seen this in other clues).
'be like' becomes 'dig' (I've seen this in another clue).
'ital' after 'dig' is 'DIGITAL'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for digital that I've seen before include "Made up of numerals, a watch or other display" , "Type of clock" , "Of fingers or arithmetical figures" , "(Clock) without hands" , "finger" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
