Crossword Genius

Figures, slightly retrograde (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

data

'figures' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'slightly retrograde' is the wordplay.
'slightly' becomes 'a tad' ('a tad' can mean 'slightly' or 'a bit').
'retrograde' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'atad' reversed gives 'DATA'.

(Other definitions for data that I've seen before include "intelligence" , "Input; facts" , "Facts given" , "Gathered stats" , "What's stored by computers" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
