Crossword Genius

Fire cosy when getting up, and attractive (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

gunshot

'fire' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'cosy when getting up and attractive' is the wordplay.
'cosy' becomes 'snug' (synonyms).
'when getting up' says the letters should be written backwards.
'and' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'attractive' becomes 'hot' (hot can mean attractive).
'snug' reversed gives 'guns'.
'guns'+'hot'='GUNSHOT'

(Other definitions for gunshot that I've seen before include "Firearm's range -- no thugs (anag)" , "Firing of hand weapon" , "Fire" , "Range of a specific weapon" , "One fired" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
