First impressions of a photographer (6)
I believe the answer is:
proofs
'first impressions' is the definition.
'proofs' can be an answer for 'impressions' (proof is a kind of impression). I'm unsure of the 'first' bit.
'of a photographer' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'profs' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for proofs that I've seen before include "negative trials" , "Trial printed pages" , "What setter must check" , "test prints" , "Trial impressions of printed matter - sound conclusive" .)
