Crossword Genius

Fish given to diminutive creature, on reflection (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

turbot

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fish' is the definition.
(type of fish)

'given to diminutive creature on reflection' is the wordplay.
'given to' says to put letters next to each other.
'diminutive creature' becomes 'brut' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'on' becomes 'to'.
'reflection' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'brut' put after 'to' is 'tobrut'.
'tobrut' reversed gives 'TURBOT'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for turbot that I've seen before include "Large food fish" , "Expensive flatfish" , "Species of flatfish" , "Flatfish - trout B (anag)" , "Rub tot out with the fish" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
