Food for one in bewilderment (5)
I believe the answer is:
maize
'food' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.
'one in bewilderment' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'maze' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for maize that I've seen before include "Tall cereal grass producing large edible ears" , "American corn" , "Type of corn" , "grain crop" , "- maybe staple" .)
