Food in aspic? (3,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

set meals

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'aspic?' is the definition.
I don't know anything about this answer so I can't tell whether this works.

'food' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'food' could be 'meal' (meal is a kind of food) and 'meal' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'sets' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'in' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for set meals that I've seen is " Fixed menus".)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
