Food item, good for male to eat, delivered by lorry (9)
I believe the answer is:
artichoke
'food item' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'delivered by lorry' is the wordplay.
'delivered' becomes 'hoke' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'by' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'lorry' becomes 'artic' (articulated lorry is a semi-trailer truck).
'hoke' after 'artic' is 'ARTICHOKE'.
'good for male to eat' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for artichoke that I've seen before include "Globe vegetable?" , "Food item" , "something often associated with Jerusalem" , "Globe, perhaps" , "Plant with large edible flower-head" .)
