Crossword Genius

Football team drawn after the Spanish (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

eleven

'football team' is the definition.
(I know that eleven is a class)

'drawn after the spanish' is the wordplay.
'drawn' becomes 'even' (I've seen this in another clue).
'after' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'the spanish' becomes 'el' ('the' in Spanish).
'even' put after 'el' is 'ELEVEN'.

(Other definitions for eleven that I've seen before include "Football side" , "XI as Roman numeral" , "Smallest positive three-syllable integer" , "Not first team (6,6) - See 24" , "one by one?" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
