I believe the answer is:

paragon

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'is ideal' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'for father a quantity of orange squash' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'father' could be 'pa' (pa can mean dad or father) and 'pa' is present in the answer.
'a' is within the answer.
'quantity' could be 'gon' (gon is a kind of quantity) and 'gon' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for paragon that I've seen before include "Perfect diamond" , "Model of conduct" , "Very good example" , "Exemplar" , "A model as of virtue" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
