Crossword Genius

Forger's block (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

anvil

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue might be a double definition.

'forger's' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'block' is the second definition.
(I know that anvil is a type of block)

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for anvil that I've seen before include "Block in smithy" , "Smithy's last" , "Bone" , "Block on which metals are hammered" , "Block for blacksmith" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
