Fraud article for personal cover (8)
I believe the answer is:
codpiece
'fraud' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.
'article for personal cover' is the wordplay.
'article' becomes 'piece' (article can mean a thing or item).
'for' says to put letters next to each other (I've seen this in other clues).
'personal cover' becomes 'cod' (cod is a kind of cover. I am not sure about the 'personal' bit.).
'piece' put after 'cod' is 'CODPIECE'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for codpiece that I've seen before include "for promotion of virility?" , "Medieval male accoutrement for the nether regions" , "What kept privates in place" , "men put on centuries ago" , "Male dress item of former times" .)
