Free article about lowest of the low? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nadir

'lowest of the low?' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'free article about' is the wordplay.
'free' becomes 'rid' (to be free of something is to be rid of it).
'article' becomes 'an' (indefinite article).
'about' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'rid'+'an'='ridan'
'ridan' written backwards gives 'NADIR'.

(Other definitions for nadir that I've seen before include "Very bottom, farthest from zenith" , "lowest of the low" , "Low-water mark" , "most unsuccessful point" , "pits" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
