Crossword Genius

Freely born with vote in New York borough (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bronx

'new york borough' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'freely born with vote' is the wordplay.
'freely' indicates an anagram.
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'vote' becomes 'x' (how votes are marked).
'born' with letters rearranged gives 'bron'.
'bron'+'x'='BRONX'

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for bronx that I've seen before include "New York City borough" , "Part of New York City" , "District of New York" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
