Crossword Genius

French wine — litres swallowed in bar cold (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

blanc

'french wine' is the definition.
(I know that white wine can be written as blanc in French)

'litres swallowed in bar cold' is the wordplay.
'litres' becomes 'l' (abbreviation for litres).
'swallowed in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'bar' becomes 'ban' (I've seen this in another clue).
'cold' becomes 'C' (abbreviation, eg on taps).
'l' put within 'ban' is 'blan'.
'blan'+'c'='BLANC'

(Another definition for blanc that I've seen is " (Of wine) white".)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
