Crossword Genius

From French and Spanish wine, English easing of tensions (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

detente

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'easing of tensions' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'from french and spanish wine english' is the wordplay.
'from french' becomes 'de' ('from' in French).
'and' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'spanish wine' becomes 'tent' (type of Spanish wine. I am not sure about the 'spanish' bit.).
'english' becomes 'E' (abbreviation).
'de'+'tent'+'e'='DETENTE'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for detente that I've seen before include "The easing of tensions between nations" , "Thaw in relations" , "Relaxed relations" , "Easing of international hostility" , "Improvement of political relations" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
