From the East, steal a Kamarupan language (4)
I believe the answer is:
abor
'kamarupan language' is the definition.
'Abor' can be an answer for 'language' (Abor is an example). I am not sure about the 'kamarupan' bit.
'from the east steal a' is the wordplay.
'from the east' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'steal' becomes 'rob' (robbing is a kind of stealing).
'rob'+'a'='roba'
'roba' written backwards gives 'ABOR'.
Can you help me to learn more?
I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
