Crossword Genius

Frozen end wire on integrated circuit (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ice

'frozen' is the definition.
(I've seen this in other clues)

'end wire on integrated circuit' is the wordplay.
'end' says to take the final letters.
'on' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'integrated circuit' becomes 'ic' (abbreviation in electronics).
The final letter of 'wire' is 'e'.
'e' after 'ic' is 'ICE'.

(Other definitions for ice that I've seen before include "Diamonds (slang)" , "engine" , "Decorate a cake" , "Being feeble, can't cut any" , "Formality" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
