Crossword Genius

Fur too much, Vera discovered (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

otter

'fur' is the definition.
(I know that otter is a fur)

'too much vera discovered' is the wordplay.
'too much' becomes 'OTT' (short for over the top).
'discovered' indicates the central letters (dis-covered - outer letters removed).
The middle letters of 'vera' are 'er'.
'ott'+'er'='OTTER'

(Other definitions for otter that I've seen before include "bad-tempered little beast" , "Torte (anag)" , "Water-loving animal" , "Something furry" , "carnivore is concerned" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
