Crossword Genius

Furry creature, evasive and revolting, from the south (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

coypu

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'furry creature' is the definition.
'coypu' can be an answer for 'creature' (coypu is a kind of creature). I'm not certain of the 'furry' bit.

'evasive and revolting from the south' is the wordplay.
'evasive' becomes 'coy' (coy can mean shy or evasive).
'and' says to put letters next to each other.
'revolting' becomes 'up' (I've seen this in other clues).
'from the south' shows that the letters should be reversed in order (in a down clue, letters go up).
'up' backwards is 'pu'.
'coy'+'pu'='COYPU'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for coypu that I've seen before include "Large South American beaver-like rodent" , "rodents" , "Aquatic beaver-like rodent" , "Beaver-like creature" , "Beaver lookalike" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
