I believe the answer is:

fried rice

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'food' is the definition.
(fried rice is a kind of food)

'get a fire going' is the wordplay.
'get' becomes 'friedric' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'a' becomes 'one'.
'fire' indicates named letters should be taken away.
'going' becomes 'on' (both can mean functioning or activated).
'one' with 'on' taken away is 'e'.
'friedric'+'e'='FRIED RICE'

'pour the cider and produce chinese' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for fried rice that I've seen is " Accompaniment to Chinese dish".)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
