Get intoxicated long after beer has run out (7)
I believe the answer is:
bewitch
'get intoxicated' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'long after beer has run out' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'long' could be 'itch' (to long or itch for something is to desire it) and 'itch' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bewitch that I've seen before include "Put under a magic spell, or charm" , "Entrance" , "Get intoxicated" , "Put under a spell, or delight" , "Spellbind" .)
