Girl's back impeding soldier's view from premises (9)
I believe the answer is:
syllogism
'view from premises' is the definition.
(conclusion drawn from certain views or premises)
'girl's back impeding soldier's' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'soldier's' could be 'gis' (GI can mean a US soldier) and 'gis' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
(Another definition for syllogism that I've seen is " Deductive reasoning".)
I've seen this clue in The Times.
