Give everybody a share of the pot (5)
I believe the answer is:
allot
'give' is the definition.
(I know this)
'everybody a share of the pot' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'everybody' could be 'all' (I've seen this before) and 'all' is found within the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is found in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is found in the answer.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for allot that I've seen before include "Earmark" , "Hand out" , "Designate; sounds like much" , "Allocate" , "Give as a share, or a task to be done" .)
